I can tell you from experience, because that's exactly what happened for me
Toward the start of my journey, i was a lost youtuber just like you
trying every way possible just to get views on my videos:
- Experimenting with random titles, thumbnails, tags, descriptions, collabs... the wholllllle works.
- Focusing on the wrong things like boosting my subscriber count by subscribing to other channels (*facepalm*)
- Pouring my heart and soul into making videos I *THOUGHT* were helpful, relevant, and fun
"What's the secret formula for getting YouTube to pick up my videos and give me the views
I deserve already?!?"
...but instead of getting loads of views or raving fans, all I got was more and more frustrated that I couldn't seem to "crack the golden code" for building an audience...
or getting any engagement at ALL, for that matter.
I kept thinking, "I'm putting in all this work and I know my videos
are full of good stuff, so what gives??
Well, skipping ahead a bit, I'll let you in on the YouTube epiphany I eventually had, but it's actually pretty obvious when you think about it.
Ready? Here it is...
Youtube isn't just an online database of videos - it's an advanced search engine.
And the only way YouTube's search algorithm knows what videos to bring up when someone searches for a topic is by the KEYWORDS associated with them.
Which means IT DOES NOT MATTER how amazingly put together and life-changing your content is...
it will NEVER get put in front of the right people on YouTube without incorporating the RIGHT WORDS by some smart keyword planning.
Makes sense, right?
So, of course next I poured all my efforts into getting my videos to rank in search results using seo strategy (and it really isn't as hard as you think)
But even with my new shifted focus I soon learned that getting more eyes on your content by itself won't bring the results you want either!
(though it does help A LOT)
And when I finally took a step back to the bigger picture, I realized that's because having strong SEO behind your videos is only ONE piece of the YouTube success pie!
In fact, I learned if I wanted to rack up the views and have a steady stream of leads pouring in from my videos, there were actually THREE pieces of that "strategy pie" I needed to master:
Creating thoughtful, branded content my people would actually be searching for, care about, and know is for them
Crafting and framing it on YouTube so that it not only gets ranked in search, but also stands out to get clicks and draws viewers in to keep watching
